SIMULATION OF GAMMA-RADIATION DISTRIBUTION IN ROCKS FOR DETERMINING THE REGISTRATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MEASUREMENT UNIT OF HORIZONTAL BOREHOLE POSITION CONTROL SYSTEM

Abstract. The article describes the theoretical aspects of gamma-radiation distribution in the rock. Information on the values of natural gamma radiation of rocks provides control of the drilling tool orientation relative to top and bottom of the reservoir in the horizontal drilling process. Simulation of gamma-radiation distribution in the rock on the example of Western Siberia fields was made in the interactive environment COMSOL Multiphysics. The test results of the two-probe device model for horizontal borehole position control were presented. The maximum distance of registration changes for the natural gamma radiation of rocks was defined. Attenuation coefficient of natural gamma-radiation of rocks, introduced by the influence of non-magnetic drill collar, was calculated. Practical advice for improvement of characteristics registration of the prototype device are given.
