ACOUSTIC EMISSION: A NEW APPROACH TO THE ANALYSIS OF DISCHARGE MECHANISMS IN MICROARC OXIDATION
(pp. 60-67)

Abstract. Microarc oxidation (MAO) is widely used for surface modification of non-ferrous metals; however, optimization of its parameters requires significant experimental effort. In this study, the MAO process on D16AT aluminum alloy in a silicate electrolyte was monitored using acoustic emission (AE). Analysis of AE signals allowed for clear identification of the process stages, particularly the initial phase. Classification of signals at different current densities established a relationship between discharge mechanisms, AE signal types, and film formation stages. Transition points between stages were determined using frequency characteristics. It is demonstrated that AE is an effective tool for operational monitoring, prediction, and optimization of MAO coating properties.

Keywords: microarc oxidation, acoustic emission, aluminum alloy, D16, oxide layer, t-SNE.
