Abstract. The paper addresses the problem of wrong use of the term “diagnostics” in some cases. The author explains what actions are carried out when this or that type of monitoring is used and what set of issues has to be considered during the technical diagnostics of an object in operation. The focus is made on misuse of term “diagnostic system”.
